how do free apps like goodrx reduce the price of prescription drugs?

I have a prescription that apparently can range between $200 and $28. How is it possible that there is that much of a difference from a free app?

Insurance companies negotiate a lower price from pharmacies in addition to paying for the medication. Pharmacies have an incentive to jack up prices so that their discounts look like better deals. GoodRX just makes those agreements with pharmacies and lets you pay for it. The pharmacies get 100% of the cash, so it’s a win for them too, without making their insured prescriptions less profitable.
