Someone turns up, drapes the entire house with a massive tarp/sheet, and goes in wearing a gas-mask.
I’m not entirely sure whether they then spray the chemical, or activate some can similar to a smoke bomb. I would assume the latter.
After it’s had time to kill all the things they’re trying to kill, the cover is removed, and the house is left to air out.
I think that usually takes about a week.
The chemical they use is most commonly formaldehyde.
This is all just from internet research – I’m in Britain, and have never seen this happen before.
(Of course, you could have found all of that, and more, out, by looking at the Wikipedia article entitled “fumigation”.)
