Dont have much to give but if I remember correctly for flys it has something to do with their eyes

Reactions are delayed as a signal travels through the nervous system. Brains are big and complex and so the signal has to travel quite far. I’d estimate maybe ten feet of neurons in a human – this is really just a guess based on some numbers I remember from bio class tho. Flies have much less brain to bog down such operations – not to mention the nerves from the brain to the parts of the body are a thousandth of the length of similar human nerves. They react much faster, but do a lot less thinking.
