How do laundry dryers work?

When it comes to laundry, washing machines are pretty cut and dry (no pun intended),: Throw clothes in with detergent, let the cycle run, and BOOM! Clean, wet laundry! But how do dryers do what they do? I get introducing heat to help your clothing dry, but how does the lint build up in the lint catcher like it does, and why is there an exhaust port going out into the air, or (in some cases), peoples garages?

Heat causes the moisture in the clothes to evaporate. So then you end up with hot humid air. The dryer vent this hot humid air so it can bring inn more dry air it can heat to evaporate more moisture.
