How do maggots get into the fridge if food has been left there too long with the power off?

Are the eggs already in the food? Are they sitting elsewhere in the fridge? Do they sneak in through some unsealed part of the fridge?

All these people telling you that there are already eggs in your food…

Wrong. And no. (at least rarely)

There is a drain in the back of your fridge. It’s called a defrost line.

Flies have a very good sense of smell. When you are not running the fridge regularly, the drain will dry out and bugs can smell the food and can go up the drain and into the fridge.

Try this. Take the food out of the fridge and put it in Tupperware. Leave it outside. Do you ever get flies? No. It just rots. Because the food doesn’t already have flies in it.

Now try this. Turn a fridge off for a couple weeks. Now go blow air through the drain line. Do you see air coming out? Yes, you do. Flies come in through the drain when a fridge isn’t running.
