How do manufacturers mass produce painted models?

I’ve googled this question to little answers. But what process are models painted by manufacturers? Do they just have people do the painting by hand or is there actual machinery used to handle the painting?

A lot of painted toy cars are painted one color or are stamped after painting on jigs. A lot of the secondary colors are on the chassis and interior that are separate pieces. Windows and wheels have different options depending on how much detail that they want to include.
