How do noses make boogers?

Your nose secretes a mucous to keep the lining moist and protect from invasive agents (bacteria, viruses…)
As that mucous is secreted it will some times dry out and form boogers.
When you are sick you secrete a lot more mucous because your body is trying to flush out the virus causing the illness
