How do old episodes of podcasts include their most recent ADs?

The podcasts that do this are segmented and the ads are separate segments. so it looks seamless on your end but, like a tv show, even an old one, let’s say. You listen to 15 minutes of content then the algorithm says you need 3 commercials to “pay” for that 15 minutes. So it retrieves 3 ads that are currently giving them money. Even if it’s like Freakanomics (which I haven’t listened to in forever) where it totally sounds like Steven has recorded the whole session front to back, including the ads.
So, The podcast is designed to sound like that, and if you can’t tell that it is not a whole seamless thing, they did their job.
