Generally it is just an ID, it’s a long string of letters and numbers that is then checked against a database. The specifics depend, of course, upon the venue sometimes they include additional info.
You can use a QR scanner to read the QR code and see the data there it’ll mostly be nonsense.
It’s just a complex barcode. If your ticket doesn’t match the id of a ticket in the system, it’s not valid.
