How do radio stations transmit information about songs?

I think I got the right flair. I understand how the audio signal is transmitted but I am baffled how the radio can display a song title, artist etc to the screen. I’ve seen this on car stereos mostly but I assume other devices can do it.

They transmit extra data on [an adjacent channel](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD_Radio) with information about what they’re playing on the main analog broadcast. Old analog receivers can pick up the analog broadcast just as they always did, but a more recent digital radio can pick up both.
