How do small cameras like in smartphones change their focus?

They generally don’t, unless you have a very good phone camera indeed. They have a single fixed focus which is chosen to provide a reasonable depth of field. If you were to try and take a really close up picture using one it would be blurred, though.
I wanna know how a solid object I was holding while taking video managed to appear to go halfway into the cover of an led light when it was the center of focus?
Do video cameras just glitch out and show some weird quantum reality every now and then?
