There are a few ways between side winders and that kinda thing. Most common is to slither. Effectively they use the muscles on their belly to push off the ground and a bit of using their sides to push forwards.

Pretty sure it’s similar to how a fish swims. Just using their body to move the mass around them, moving their body in the direction they desire.
