Other than an employee or two standing by, it seems to be riding on customer trust. Wouldn’t a company want to only have cashier lanes, so they can ensure that all products taken from a store are bought fairly?

I went to Sam’s Club one day and had a cart full of shit and forgot to scan the bleach…I got to the door and the woman scanned the receipt then scanned a few items in the cart (not the bleach) and somehow the bleach showed up…no idea how
