How do weather apps and websites know the exact weather of every suburb?

Curious to find out whether they take a measurement from each suburb, or if they have a few measuring equipment dotted around the city and use science to fill in the blanks.

Nearly every US weather prediction comes from a single source: The National Weather Service, a US government organization.

They have forecasters around the country and weather sites all over areas (often at places like public schools or government buildings or airports) to get weather data and make forecasts. But yes they have weather models to help aid their predictions of course.
