Well when a violent rubbing, heat or cold hits an area of skin the area underneath is broken or damaged but the skin is not punctured.

So underneath the skin defenses start to work to defend the area, so they build an area that causes swelling, this produces parts that help stop the swelling and also heal the wound, but some swelling occurs.

But the fact is that in doing these things a swelling happens and a “bubble” appears, this is meant to protect the affected area.
