How does a company (like Berkshire Hathaway) buy shares in publicly traded companies?

I have been curious about this for a while. They’re obviously not using a basic brokerage account. Through what vehicle does a company hold shares in other public companies?

They have brokers on staff whos job is to go to other companies or stocks market and buy shares of publicly trade companies.

They have their own brokers in the case of a company like BH. If not, they just go through a brokerage firm same as you or I just at a much higher level. Sorta like you might hire a legal firm to handle a merger, but instead you’re hiring a brokerage firm to handle a major stock transaction. They probably do most of their trading through a private exchange because when a company like Berkshire Hathaway buys shares, it’s hundreds of thousands of shares…….not like 13.

so basically companies like berkshire use investment firms or their own accounts to buy shares not a regular brokerage like us. they just have it all more organized and can handle larger amounts of money. it’s kinda like shopping at bulk stores but for stocks
