How does a company (like Berkshire Hathaway) buy shares in publicly traded companies?

I have been curious about this for a while. They’re obviously not using a basic brokerage account. Through what vehicle does a company hold shares in other public companies?

They have brokers on staff whos job is to go to other companies or stocks market and buy shares of publicly trade companies.
