I imagine because the individual animators don’t just get to make whatever they want, someone higher up tells then what to animate and in what style.

It’s not about individual artistic expression, it’s about a communial unified vision set by directors.

Pixar has a well-defined visual style that they stick to across all of their films. This includes everything from the shape and size of their characters to the lighting and color palette used in each scene. By having a consistent visual language, everyone on the team knows exactly what they’re aiming for and can work towards achieving that vision.

But even with all of these measures in place, there’s still a lot of room for individual expression and creativity within the confines of the established style. Pixar encourages their artists to bring their own unique perspectives and ideas to the table, as long as they stay true to the overall look and feel of the film.

To add to what others are saying, Disney used to have a clean up department where a bunch of people who did a final pass on the animations to make sure they match up with the character sheets and have a cohesive style. I don’t know if modern 2d animation still has this though.

How does a resturant maintain quality despite having too many meals made at one time for a single chef to make them all. Then to make it worse they have multiple shifts a day and are open 7 days a week.

There’s no way the same chef or even team of chefs can make every meal. But they maintain quality.

This goes for most businesses that are big enough.

You hire good staff and train them to do things the way you want them to.
