How does a phone detect moisture?

Like earlier my phone was screaming at me because it detected moisture in my charging port. How did it know that?

A phone detects moisture by using a moisture sensor. The presence of water changes the way that electricity behaves, and the moisture sensor is designed to report those changes in electrical behavior to the phone.

Really it is a way for the company who makes the phone to know if you damaged it by getting it wet so it can deny warranty repairs. The moisture sensors can go off with the phone in your pocket throughout the day. Essentially your phone is telling you to deal with the moisture before it voids your warranty
