How does a refrigerator make ice cubes?

I’m talking about the refrigerators with a built in ice maker. How do they make them all the same size / shape? Is there a built in mold? How does it know when it to drop it into the box?

There is a tray inside the freezer. Water fills the tray and the freezer freezes it. When this process starts, it starts a timer of sorts in the ice machine. After the appropriate amount of time, the freezer knocks the ice cubes from the tray into a collection bin. Then the process starts over. There is a sensor in the bin that tells the freezer when it is full and puts a stop to the ice making process.
