How does a transformer make clicking sounds when being powered ON or when it is bucking/boosting voltages, without having any moving parts inside?

Nobody mentioned thermal expansion yet. Electronics under load generate heat, which causes metal heat sinks and enclosures to expand. Uneven expansion can make pinging noises as stress in the metal builds and releases.
