how does an electric relay works?

There’s an electromagnet inside connected to the part that completes the circuit.

Imagine it pretty much as being exactly like a light switch, but instead of your hand being used to operate it, there’s another part inside that when powered acts like magnet to flip the switch, and when that power is taken away a spring pushes the contactor back apart.

Same as a light switch, except you’re replacing the physical act of flicking the lever with a tiny device that uses electricity to move the lever.

So, it’s like a water pipe that’s closed or open, and running electricity through a valve that changes the status of the pipe.

A regular light switch is like a water pipe valve you change by hand, the relay is like a valve that opens or closes when voltage hits it.
