There’s an electromagnet inside connected to the part that completes the circuit.

Imagine it pretty much as being exactly like a light switch, but instead of your hand being used to operate it, there’s another part inside that when powered acts like magnet to flip the switch, and when that power is taken away a spring pushes the contactor back apart.
