The same way a cheese grater shreds cheese. (Your bellybutton is the cheese grater and your t-shirt is the cheese)

It rubs off from your shirt and collects there because it’s the only indentation on your torso.

I used to wear only blue shirts for work and my belly button lint was always blue. 🙂
