How does body dysmorphia work on a neurological/visual level? Is it similar to a hallucination?

I don’t actually *know*, but I imagine it goes something like this: You ever done your absolute best to make a drawing, people then tell you is beautiful? But because you made it, all you see are the lines that are slightly off, the perspective that isn’t quite right, with shadows that look out of place? Because you’re too close to it, you don’t get the context of the full picture, your bias against yourself only allow you to see the things that remove the drawing from the vision you had for it in your head.

Translating this to body dysmorphia, you may then correct detail after detail after detail, until the full picture is a patchwork mess of corrections.

(This is how I try to relate to it, but I must emphasise, I don’t really know.)
