how does chamomile lighten hair colour?

Question

I’ve had a friend tell me that she does chamomile bath for her hair to lighten her colour naturally (she’s dark brown).

Does this actually work?
How come?
Would the process also happen in oil? (Marinate the chamomile in oil and apply overnight)
