What’s the difference between two things and one thing?
There is something in-between.
Normally there’s air or dirt or something in-between if you put things together.
In a vacuum there is nothing, so if you put two things together it becomes one thing.
If it’s a metal or alloy, the molecules don’t know which piece they’re a part of.
