How does computer understand whether some file is text, video, image. As it only understands binary at the end of the day ?

I tried going through various articles and videos available online, but couldn’t really understand, properly!!

In the beginning, files started with what were called a “magic number “, which was two bytes — 8 bits each — that described what kind of file it was, such as a compiled program, a text file, or whatever.

MS, however, chose a different path, and made the name of the file describe its contents.
