How does conditioner work?

Shampoo strips away all the oil that your body produces to keep your skin and hair healthy. Conditioner replenishes it. If you don’t use any product in your hair, you really don’t need to shampoo everyday, but shampoo manufacturers tell everyone you need to.

Many of them just apply silicone to the hair so it is shiny and soft. Nothing to do with hair health

It puts essential oils back into the follicle and scalp flesh after stripping natural oils produced by the body that hold all the grime

I watched a TV show a long time ago that suggested conditioners work on an electrostatic principle. When you shampoo, the polarity of the hair is all messed up, and when you condition, it resets it so the polarity lies the same direction along all your hairs so it can lie flat and smooth. I’ve never been able to find anything about this since. Can anyone confirm or deny that?
