How does corruption actually destroy countries, especially developing countries ?

Unchecked power leads to corruption. Corruption erodes public trust in leadership. It becomes easier to overthrow your leaders if nobody likes them. New leaders promise to be better than the old ones. Sometimes they get better, but often they succumb to the power and that leads back to corruption.
