How does google “know” if a place is “busier than normal?”

Title basically. But wondering how they can tell that a particular business is “busy” or not.

Unless you’ve turned it off, Google actively tracks users’ whereabouts and can therefore calculate the amount of people in a certain area based on this. If you use Google stuff a lot you can probably check places you’ve been on Google maps and it will tell you “Last visited ____ ago”.
