how does hawking radiation work?

1) ’empty’ space has particles forming all the time, usually annihilating each other since they have opposite charges

2) when such particles form at the edge of a black hole, the negative particle might get sucked it while the positive one escapes

3) the negative particle annihilates a positive particle inside the black hole which therefore becomes lighter.

This has something to do with it afaik
