How does Helion’s fusion energy technology work?

I’ve just read that [Microsoft signed a purchase agreement](https://www.helionenergy.com/articles/announcing-helion-fusion-ppa-with-microsoft-constellation/) with them and tried to understand their technology but… I don’t

Helion plans to harvest energy from their fusion reactors directly from the magnetic field, rather than from converting water to steam through thermal energy. I’d highly recommend checking out Real Engineering’s fabulous video for an I depth dive into Helion’s fusion technology [here](https://youtu.be/_bDXXWQxK38)

You get hydrogen under tremendous pressure and then heat it up with a laser which turns it into plasma then the pressure fuses the hydrogen which releases some energy. However they use so much energy on the laser and creating the pressure that it isn’t yet a useful way of generating power. https://youtu.be/JLMqIqWZyhU
