All you REALLY need to apply for credit cards, online loans etc is your social security number (social insurance number) in canada. If I had your number I could put it down on credit card applications, and wheb I inevitably didn’t pay the bills itnwould be traced back to you through that number.
“Hi, I’m totally [this person] and not an identity thief! I have [stolen or copied paperwork] to prove it! So if I commit any crime or spend any money/credit it’s definitely little old me and not this random identity thief that’s definitely not me!”
