I believe that saliva is another form of secretion similar to sweat although, I know that the former can be unforgiving when at times it can leave a residue behind if a thick enough coating had been left at first. In terms of lips the saliva has no moisture only salt and other non moisturizing components I’m sure. Lol. Licking the lips drys the brittle skin because i see it as dehydration of whatever meant to be supple there before crisp golden flakes took hold. Just cake vaseline there couple minutes for a few days then take a nice coating of any toothpaste and cover top and bottom lip. Once that hardens your can wipe out off and I’m hopeful that your lips gone be straight. Also, you don’t wanna get a ring around your mouth from licking dry skin. Vaseline always forever.

When you lick your lips you moisturize them with water. When air esp cold air hits your lips it takes the moisture leaving your lips dry
