Sound is a vibration, a back-and-forth motion of a substance. Usually we think of sound as just the motions of air we can detect in our ears. Sound only exists where matter is (so, not in the vacuum of outer space), and it moves at various speeds depending on how dense and “springy” the substance is.
Light is a similar kind of fluctuation, but of energy. Usually we think of light as just the fluctuations we can perceive with our eyes. Energy exists pretty much everywhere, and it normally moves at one speed: “the speed of light”.
