How does my hand transition between multiple-fingers and single hand mode?

You’ve been practicing since birth at using all the finger muscles in unison. In fact, single-hand-mode or “gripping” is one of the very few tricks an infant can already perform brand new fresh out of the box.

There are also only like two tendons to operate all four fingers, back in the forearm (they branch further atop the back o the hand), so it’s less effort than it seems like to operate it all at once.
