How does my laptop wakes up from sleep mode where i just opened the display?

The same way the light in your fridge comes on when you open the door. There is a switch that functions when it opens or closes the lid. Open the lid and the switch signals it to wake up.
On my older ones, it had a little pin that stuck up and you could manually press it. Now they may be internal.
Opening a display triggers a switch (or un-presses) a button. Sleep mode means that computer still monitors and responds to a few things, including that button.
There might be a setting (under Power settings) to turn it off.
From what I’ve seen on my laptop is that there is a magnetic switch somewhere on the base of the computer (around the keyboard) and a magnet somewhere around the screen. When you close the laptop, the switch is made and the screen shuts off/goes to sleep. When you open the laptop, the switch opens and sends to wake signal to the computer.
