Because your skin is stretch and flexible, very much like rubber. If you take a rubber band and stretch it or wrap it around something and then undo it, it will go back to its original shape and size. Our skin has proteins called collagen and elastin that act very much like the rubber band and allow our skin to move, stretch, and compress to a substantial degree.
