Picture the poison as a molecule. Without intervention, that molecule may bind to something in your body, causing harm in some way. An antidote would provide something for those molecules to bind to that are not your body. So yes, in effect, you are canceling out the poison with something else by providing a pathway for that poison to go that doesn’t involve damaging your body’s cells.
