Varg Vikernes produced & released albums while he was in prison in Norway for murder, mind you their system is a lot more casual then the States.
The material was recorded before he went to prison. It’s only being released now. This is the same way that artists like Tupac, Notorious. B.I.G., and John Lennon have released new singles and albums after their deaths.
He didn’t. Sorta. The songs on the album were done prior to him being in jail it appears. And on top of that, there seems to be confusion on if the album is an actual official release or some type of unofficial bootleg from earlier recordings. Too early to tell
Musicians sometimes record a bunch of stuff that doesn’t necessarily go anywhere. They’re just kinda jamming, figuring they can probably use something that sounds particularly good in a single or album later, when the right moment arises. Well, if they end up dead or incarcerated, that’s a good time to make something out of those old recordings.
