How does sillicone reduce scarring?

The vast majority of scar treatments (like gels or tapes) are silicone. But how does silicone work on the skin? Especially in a tape/sheet form when it’s not absorbing into the skin.

It just seals the top layer of the skin and prevents moisture from evaporating. That keeps the epidermis cells alive longer and they can divide and repair the scar a bit more. Rinse and repeat and you get prolonged healing, which should, in some cases, results in a better scar repair.
