How does Siri hear me say “Hey Siri” if it’s not constantly listening to my conversation or me speaking?

You know how phones use all these technical big jargon words like “Octo-core Processing”?
Well imagine those “core” being brains and “octo” means 8. So it’s like 8 brains working on that phone.
So when you tell it to do something, you have the power of 8 people working on it (8 is better than 1 amiright?)
But imagine the 8 having different inteligence. You got a couple of smart ones, and one not so smart.
So instead of having 8 people listening whether you say “Hey Siri” they choose the dumbest/slowest person out of the 8 and told em that their job is to listen for the word “Hey Siri” and if they hear it, they would wake the other 7 up (cause the other ones are sleeping) so that the 7 would know what to do when you instruct it to…”Play Coldplay” or something.

Tldr; they have a low powered processing where it’s job is just to listen to the word “Hey Siri” and once it hears it, it turns on everything else. If everything else is constantly listening, then your battery would die faster and that’ll make you a battery murderer.
Used to work at Amazon. They have dedicated hardware that’ll activate the listening capabilities the moment it detects something along the lines of “Hey Alexa” was said.

Smart speakers and cell phones have a little low-power engine that’s constantly matching what the device hears to a single wake word (e.g., “Hey, Siri!”). Once the wake word is heard, the device either sends samples to the cloud for decoding or to a bigger engine on chip.
Someone told me a good analogy: When you’re sleeping, do you go deaf? No. You sort of ignore the sounds except for when you have to wake up and you hear your alarm or name being said
It’s like you in a coffee shop. You don’t technically listen to what everyone says but when someone shouts your name, you immediately turn around

It listens to everything and I’m sure it does transmit info, how many times have you talked about wanting to buy something to someone and then on your phone or pc you magically get an ad for it and even for arguments sake let’s say that’s not the case, just cos they say they don’t do something doesn’t mean they won’t. We have no clue at the end of the day.
