Essentially there is A LOT of it. When air moves, it’s normally large mass of air moving the same direction. Via hey streams, pressure systems ect.

When you blow a candle out in a room the smoke dissipates into the air (but is still there.)
A wood fire, you’ll see/smell from a couple houses down.
A house fire, you’ll see/smell for a mile or so (depending on wind.)
Burn thousands of acres of woods, there just isn’t enough air to dissipate it and travels on the wind across the USA.
