How does Sulfuric Acid not destroy its container?

If it is so strong at destroying whatever you want, why does it not ruin the container it is stored in?

Sulfuric acid (and acids in general) don’t just eat through everything. Sulfuric acid won’t attack glass and many common plastics, so it can be stored in these kinds of containers.

I used to teach chemistry and I once had sulfuric acid that ate through its cap after being placed in a closet for a long time. It was never moved.
