How does the border wall solve the alleged illegal immigration problem when they could just hop on a flight and ‘miss’ their return flight home?

EDIT: Learned that many countries are required to have a Visa before entering. They cannot travel to the US, even for tourism, without it. As a privileged American citizen, I naively thought anyone can travel anywhere for tourism purposes with just a passport.

That’s a really expensive and time consuming way to do it. They could just climb over it, or under it, or probably cut through it. They are the ones who were going to build it for us anyway so they’d definitely know how to get through it.

When you come on a flight, you can’t “miss” your connection. The government will put you on a plane. You can’t just “walk away” from airport immigration.

Actually, the majority of our “illegal immigrants” in the U.S. are visa overstay. Some years it is almost 2:1.

The Center for Migration Studies did a study from 2010 to 2017 and visa overstays were by far the most common method.

One, if you come in with a passport and never leave, they have your ID and can issue a warrant for your arrest; but they won’t come looking for you, if they don’t even know you’re here. Two, some people are simply not allowed into the US, even with a passport. And three, a lot of those people can’t even afford a plane ticket.

The wall literally solves nothing. They have already found holes in the wall made with a simple angle grinder. You can buy one in home depot and 2 batteries for like 60 bucks. And most immigrants that stay here undocumented just have thier visas run out and they don’t leave. There are so many ways to get into America legally and just not leave. There are also soany ways to get here illegally. But that wall is a gigantic ego project by trump. If the wall worked it would have been built already.

It keeps out the poorest people who can’t afford a flight. Or at least that’s what it’s supposed to do. In reality the wall is easy to bypass/easily damaged.

The border wall was never intended to solve anything apart from “how to stir up bigots for votes.”

Most people in this country illegally came here legally on a student or work visa and simply didn’t go back. Wall ain’t gonna fix that. And most people who come into this country do so on a plane, so unless your wall is 30,000 feet tall, it’s not gonna fix that either. And everyone knew this before Trump started bloviating.

But no one voted for Trump because they thought the host of *Celebrity Apprentice* had practical solutions to anything. They liked him because he hated the people they hated. And talking big about a wall and calling Mexicans rapists signaled that loud and clear. The tell here is that he didn’t pay any political price whatsoever with his base when almost none of the wall got built, and the sections that did were falling down in the wind or had gaps you could walk through. They didn’t care that the wall existed or worked. They just wanted to feel justified in hating those dirty furriners.

The wall can be defeated by a rope. The wall is, however, a good symbol.

It’s extremely common for tourists and students to “overstay” their visas. This led to 9/11.

In America, you can live here but you have to steal a social security number to work.

The wall solves nothing. They never have. It is ill-conceived junk promoted by fear based governments and grifters that has failed multiple times throughout history and continues to fail today.
