If you walk across the equator, into the Southern Hemisphere, does it suddenly become the summer?

Yes and no, technically one you cross the equator you change the seasons, however there is a large chunk in the middle which doesn’t have normal seasons between the tropic of cancer and the tropic of capricorn.

Anywhere close to the equator won’t have summer and winter, but usually they have their own seasons, most often rainy season and dry season. Other than that, it’s hot at the equator, so you could think of it as “always summer”.

There aren’t warm/cold seasons around the equator. The closer you are to the north or south pole, the winters will be colder. If you are closer to the equator the winters are less cold. If you right near the equator there is no winter.

the tropics have their own climate, it’s always warm and summer like between 23N and 23S. the seasons exist beyond those regions. that’s why people in the northern US and Canada like to visit Mexico in the winter, it’s still warm and summer-like because it’s closer to the equator.
