How does the climate work close to the equator?

If you walk across the equator, into the Southern Hemisphere, does it suddenly become the summer?

Anywhere close to the equator won’t have summer and winter, but usually they have their own seasons, most often rainy season and dry season. Other than that, it’s hot at the equator, so you could think of it as “always summer”.
