How does the climate work close to the equator?

If you walk across the equator, into the Southern Hemisphere, does it suddenly become the summer?

There aren’t warm/cold seasons around the equator. The closer you are to the north or south pole, the winters will be colder. If you are closer to the equator the winters are less cold. If you right near the equator there is no winter.
