How does the climate work close to the equator?

If you walk across the equator, into the Southern Hemisphere, does it suddenly become the summer?

Yes and no, technically one you cross the equator you change the seasons, however there is a large chunk in the middle which doesn’t have normal seasons between the tropic of cancer and the tropic of capricorn.
